Lunch with the History People

Thursday, October 20, 2016, from noon – 1 PM Author Nancy Lee will discuss “The 1918 Fire that Destroyed the City of Cloquet.” Nancy’s lecture is based on her book entitled The Island. The impact of this fire spread all the way to Duluth and other surrounding cities. Dunlap Island, located on the St. Louis River, surprisingly was spared by the flames. At the time of the fire, the city of Cloquet banned all saloons. Neighboring Dunlap Island had about 18-20 saloons, but none of them were burnt at all. Nancy sums it up by stating, “Certainly, facts are often stranger than fiction!” The event will be held in the Ruth Maney Room on the first floor of the St. Louis County Heritage & Arts Cen
