Telling History Through Art: An Indigenous Pottery Workshop

On Saturday, the St. Louis County Historical Society partnered with the 1854 Treaty Authority to bring an indigenous pottery workshop to the Depot. The programming began at 10:00am with an introduction to the history of pottery making via clay, how it's made, and where it can be found. The discussion then focused on pottery and its relationship to native culture(s). Teaching artist, Anne Meyer, then instructed participants in the art of constructing pottery using traditional "pinch pot" and "coiling" methods. Participants were able to then create their own piece of art to be fired and then glazed for use.
