Veterans Memorial Hall Oral History Training

Veterans Memorial Hall, a program of the St. Louis County Historical Society, is hosting an oral history training session. Our goal is to record the oral histories of every veteran in St. Louis County, and we need volunteers to help us accomplish that goal. The free training session will be held Friday, Oct. 19, from 9 a.m. to noon in The Depot, 506 Michigan St., Duluth. Participants will learn about the background of the Oral History Program and the importance of recording these interviews for preservation. Her work as an oral historian is extensive. She has written several works including The Oral History Manual (3rd edition), The American Indian Oral History Manual: Making Many Voices Heard, the Community Oral History Toolkit, Practicing Oral History in Historical Organizations, and Doing Veterans Oral History. In 2009, Barbara presented for our program on her book entitled Hard Work and a Good Deal: The Civilian Conservation Corps in Minnesota, which won a Minnesota Book Award. The Society received a grant through the Minnesota Humanities Center for focused programming on Vietnam veterans and those the war affected. The programming is centered on the PBS documentary “The Vietnam War” by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick. Halloween Carnival

October 28, 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM St. Louis County Heritage & Arts Center (the Depot) 506 West Michigan Street Duluth, Minnesota St. Louis County Historical Society is partnering with the Lake Superior Railroad Museum for an exciting event. The Kids Halloween Carnival includes games, cupcake walk, bouncy house and other fun activities!!! Event admission is free for members of the St. Louis County Historical Society and members of the Lake Superior Railroad Museum. Tickets will be sold at the door for $6 per person (ages 3 and over).
