New York Fashion Week Comes to the Depot with Buckanaga Social Club

DIBENINDIZOWIN - Mastering One’s Self WHAT: The Buckanaga Social Club’s collection shown at New York’s Fashion Week WHEN: Friday, May 3, 5 to 8:30 p.m. WHERE: St. Louis County Heritage & Arts Center (the Depot) See 15 unique looks in women’s and menswear lines curated, designed, and produced by Amber Buckanaga and the Buckanaga Social Club collective. The collection is inspired by the Anishinaabe ideal of freedom that Buckanaga says tells of her journey in mastering one’s self. Elaborate ribbon skirts become everyday wear. Sport wear becomes rooted in the legacy of Anishinaabe woodland patterns. Recycled and natural fabrics left over from one outfit to fit are used in the design of another.

GeoDome - 50th Anniversary of the Moon Landing from an Indigenous Perspective

April 29, 2019 from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM The St. Louis County Historical Society, in collaboration with its American Indian Advisory Committee, will host the University of Minnesota Duluth GeoDome on April 29, 2019 from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. The event will be held in the Great Hall, St. Louis County Heritage & Arts Center (the Depot). The program, given by James Rock, an ethno-astronomer and UMD’s Marshall W. Alworth Planetarium Program Director, will explore the 50th anniversary of the Moon Landing from an indigenous perspective. The event is included in price of regular admission to the Depot.
