Veterans Memorial Hall Oral History Training

Veterans Memorial Hall, a program of the St. Louis County Historical Society, is hosting an oral history training session. Our goal is to record the oral histories of every veteran in St. Louis County, and we need volunteers to help us accomplish that goal. The free training session will be held Friday, Oct. 19, from 9 a.m. to noon in The Depot, 506 Michigan St., Duluth.

Participants will learn about the background of the Oral History Program and the importance of recording these interviews for preservation. Through training, volunteers will also be provided the tools and confidence to conduct one-on-one interviews with area veterans. This session is good for first-time interviewers and for those who have had training in the past and just need a refresher course. Those who have conducted interviews will be on hand to talk about their experiences, and various people will be available for questions.

After volunteers and veterans complete the interview, the interviews are transcribed and stored within the Albert J. Amatuzio Research Center in the Veterans Memorial Hall. With permission, they will be available online at www.vets-hall.org. It is important to know how to properly interview our veterans, preserving their stories for generations to come.
