March 26: History in a Pint

Veterans Memorial Hall, a program of the St. Louis County Historical Society, announces its next event in the local history discussion series, “History in a Pint.” The presentation entitled “The Frozen Chosin” will take place at Carmody Irish Pub and Brewing, and will begin at 5:30 pm on Tuesday March 26th.
Robert “Bob” Johnson of Duluth will tell stories of his experiences in the Korean War, sometimes referred to as ‘The Forgotten War.’ As a member of ‘B’ Company Marines, 4th Infantry Battalion, Bob was activated to service, sent to Camp Pendleton and then assigned to the Korean conflict. Of the 227 men who were called up, 10 were Killed in Action (KIA) and the Company sustained 80% casualties in the Battle of Chosin Reservoir. The aptly named “Frozen Chosin” is for their heroic struggle against overwhelming numbers in the bitter cold of a North Korean winter. Surrounded on all sides by Chinese military, the Marines had to fight their way out inflicting heavy causalities on the enemy in the process.
The event is free and open to the public. We advise guests to park in the parking ramp behind and connected to the Sheraton, which is across the street from Carmody’s.
