2023 Remembrance Dinner

General Joseph L. Votel will be the keynote speaker at this year’s Remembrance Dinner, sponsored by the St. Louis County Historical Society and its Veterans Memorial Hall program. His topic will be “A Return to Great Power Competition” and will address 3 subthemes: the state of competition in Eastern Europe and the South China Sea, challenges and opportunities for the United States, and strategies for maintaining our competitive edge. General Votel is a Minnesota native and retired four-star general in the United States Army who was commander of United States Central Command from March 2016 to March 2019. Before that, he served as commander of the United States Special Operations Command.


The event will take place at 5pm in the Great Hall of the St. Louis County Depot, 506 West Michigan Street, Duluth, MN 55802. It is held in honor of CSM John Werner who passed away March 25th of this year. Furthermore, it will help fund improvements to the Society’s Medal of Honor Row. Tickets are $50.

Veterans Memorial Hall was established in 1910 and is a joint program of the St. Louis County Historical Society and the military service veterans of northeastern Minnesota with a mission to gather, preserve, and promote the rich and diverse human experiences of veterans, their families and communities, through museum, archival and educational programs.
