Job Description

Position Title: Education and Marketing Coordinator

Description Valid On: October 2020

Reports to: Executive Director

Part-Time: 24 hours per week Hourly Rate: $16.00


Provides assistance to the Executive Director in a wide range of educational and marketing areas, including varied and complex outreach duties, which fulfill the Society’s mission to inform and engage the public about the history of St. Louis County. Functions as the editor of Rootprints, the Society’s news publication.


  • Position works to create a welcoming and productive environment, which requires extensive and effective communication skills. Position produces external and internal communications; some are independently generated and some are created collaboratively with the Executive Assistant and the Executive Director.

  • Collaborates with Executive Assistant and Executive Director to produce the Society’s Annual Report and other reports directed to the public.

  • Assists the Executive Director as requested with the preparation of grant proposals, including editing.

  • Serves as editor of Rootprints, the Society’s news publication, in whatever form the Board of Governors authorizes at any given time. This involves overseeing its production, writing some articles and assigning and securing the writing of other articles and smaller pieces. Works as the graphic designer, proofreader, and ensures time production and distribution. Executive Director determines the theme of each issue, and the editor develops it with the Executive Director.

  • Promotes awareness to the public about Society exhibits, events, publications, and limited-edition prints.

  • Responds to requests for assistance: phone, email, and walk-in members of the public and refers to further resources as needed.

  • Provides editing assistance to staff members, as needed, or as directed by the Executive Director.

  • Assists Executive Director and the Society in other activities, as needed, and not specifically listed in this job description


  • Knowledge of marketing techniques

  • Good interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrable project management skills.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential. Must possess the ability to competently and confidently edit and originate a wide variety of documents and publications.

  • A Bachelor’s degree is preferred in marketing, communications, or education.

  • Two years minimum relevant experience is required. Significant related experience can be substituted for a college degree at the discretion of the Executive Director.

  • Basic math skills are essential.

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite. Experience developing publications, flyers, newsletters is required.

  • Ability to prioritize and process multiple tasks widely varying in scope and content is required.

  • Must be detail-oriented.
