The public is invited to a free reception celebrating the redesign, reinterpretation, and reinstallation of one of the Society’s premier exhibits celebrating the long history of forest industries in northern Minnesota on Friday, April 8, from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM in the Depot Fesler Gallery Hallway, Duluth, Minnesota.
This event is part of the Twin Ports Festival of History, a multiple site event! At the reception, museum patrons will meet Erin E. Hicks, the Society’s Curator, and Gary Lundstrom, Great Lake Design, whose design has refreshed and reinvigorated this permanent exhibit that honors the legacy of J. C. “Buzz” Ryan and the Civilian Conservation Corps.
Over 25 vintage framed photographs by twentieth century photographer William Francis Roleff are on view. His images were selected to chronicle the lumber industry in northern Minnesota from 1912 to 1916.
In addition, the exhibit contains maps, logging and forest industry artifacts, videos, and interactive pieces which create multi-level experiences for visitors. Balanced information is provided on differing perspectives on forest conservation, management, preservation, and utilization. This offers visitors an opportunity to understand diverse viewpoints toward the forest – both historical and present day.
The exhibit is open without charge to museum patrons at the St. Louis County Historical Society located in the historic Depot at 506 West Michigan Street in Duluth, Minnesota. The Depot is open from 10 AM to 5 PM daily.
