SLCHS 101st Annual Meeting of the Members



Dr. Steven Matthews, Associate Professor of History at the University of Minnesota Duluth will be the keynote speaker at the St. Louis County Historical Society’s Annual Member’s Meeting on Tuesday April 25, 2023. The theme of his presentation is “The Unrelenting Honesty of Objects.” This event is free and open to the public.


Matthews received his Ph.D. in European History from the University of Florida and has been at U.M.D. since the Fall of 2004. He specializes in medieval European history as well as the history of Christianity and the history of science. He is the co-founder of the Museum Studies and Public History programs at U.M.D and is currently doing research in the history and archaeology of western Ireland.


The event’s public schedule is as follows:

5:00pm - 7:15pm Annual Meeting of the Members

5:00pm - 6:00pm Social Hour (with complimentary light fare and cash bar), tour Society galleries

6:00pm - 6:30pm President’s welcome followed by speaker

6:30pm - 7:15pm Business meeting followed by election/ratification of Board of Governors*

*Membership dues must be current and postmarked or received in the Society’s office as of March 26, 2023 to be eligible to vote at the Annual Meeting, per the Society’s bylaws.
