The St. Louis County Historical Society, in partnership with the 1854 Treaty Authority, Bois Forte Tribal Council, and the Historic Union Depot Corporation, presents a Native American Heritage Day event on November 18, 2023. November is nationally recognized as Native American Heritage Month, and this event will celebrate local Native authors.

The event will include Native American-themed food, a hand drummer, and children’s activities. This event will feature Dr. Jill Doerfler as a speaker and other local Native American authors promoting their work. Doerfler grew up on the White Earth Reservation in Northern Minnesota and is the daughter of an enrollee of the White Earth Nation. She is a Professor and Department Head of American Indian Studies at the University of Minnesota Duluth. She has lectured and published widely on the topics of citizenship, blood quantum, and constitutional reform.

The event will take place in the Great Hall of the St. Louis County Heritage & Arts Center—located in the Depot’s Great Hall—at 506 W. Michigan Street. The event will run from 11am to 3pm. This event is free and open to the public. It is suitable for all ages.
