St. Louis County Historical Society and its Veterans Memorial Hall are holding a 5k Run-Walk to honor the memory of CSM (Command Sergeant Major) John S. Werner on Saturday, June 13, 2026. Start time is 9AM with a short ceremony prior at The Other Place Bar & Grill, 3930 East Calvary Rd, Duluth, MN 55803. The entry fee is $35. Please join us as we honor the life and legacy of CSM John S. Werner. A devoted steward of our nation, state, and region, John was deeply committed to the Society’s mission and the well-being of Northland veterans. He worked steadfastly to preserve the storied lineage of our local service members, ensuring their sacrifices remain woven into the fabric of this community. In every endeavor, CSM Werner exemplified the highest ideals of leadership, patriotism, and selfless public service.
Proceeds will benefit the programs of SLCHS’s Veterans Memorial Hall, which he cared so deeply about, including the Society’s Annual Remembrance Dinner, the Mike Colalillo Scholarship, VMH’s “History in a Pint” programs, Veterans Day Commemorations, and improvements to Medal of Honor Row at the St. Louis County Depot.
